Glen Cook did not come to Engraving until mid-life, but once he did, he slipped into it as easily and comfortably as aÊwell-worn saddle.Ê Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he has spent most of his life in the Southwestern United States, with a fewÊ years in Australia in childhood.
Glen's first love has always been horses.Ê He studied Animal Science at Texas A&M University and he has a deep background in the horse industry, having shown, trained and bred World Champions Halter Horses Professionally as the owner of Southern Star Horse Farm.Ê Partly as a means of building and maintaining his horse facilities, he developed a talent for welding and metal work, and then began Hand- Crafting his own bits and spurs.
Glen collects firearms, and in the mid 1990's he decided to put his expertise to use by building his own gun store and shooting range.ÊCook's Sure Shot was an elegant establishment that featured engraved firearms and knives among the wares on display.Ê After a fewÊyears Glen sold the business, and it was then that the threads of his experience came together into a passion for engraving.
Glen practices a variety of engraving techniques, including Western engraving, European fine line and Bulino.Ê He has been fortunate enough to train under some of the greatest talents in the field, including Sam Alfano, Lee Griffiths and Manny Gonzales.Ê Glen brings aÊhorseman appreciation for function as well as beauty to his work, and always a craftsman's devotion to precise artistry and technique.
